…before going out on your own if you’re not in sales for your company now, get into sales because if you can’t succeed in sales working for somebody else you will not succeed working in sales for yourself. –Trent Dyrsmid
As many entrepreneurs can relate in starting up a business comes with many obstacles before reaching the height of success. According to Trent, “I made a lot of mistakes as every entrepreneur does on my way to having some success.” The story behind Groove Digital Marketing was to create a professional services dedicated to businesses that wanted to use inbound marketing to attract their clients and they could afford to pay his fees. As Trent added, “Groove was created for businesses that wanted to use inbound marketing to attract their clients and can afford to pay a minimum retainer fee of $5,000 a month.” If you are thinking of starting a new business, as he added “…don’t try to find shortcut or gimmicks, ways to get super instant overnight results because you are probably going to end up building house of cards that doesn’t last for the long term.” His advice, “if you want to build a professional business of any kind you want to have that consistent retainer income that will make your lifestyle very, very nice and if your company worth a quite bit of money…you could sell one day you need to find clients that are doing millions a year in revenue.” Raising the consulting price changed the direction of his business to be a success.
Trent’s One Idea
Groove Digital Marketing came about in late 2008; he met some internet marketers, became interested in what they do that opened his eyes to online marketing. Prior to that, he spent several years building up the Bright Ideas blog with the initial goal of using it as a platform for his podcast which was a way of building a list of business owners that might want to buy InfusionSoft (marketing software tool). The downside to this business, BrightIdeas.co was attracting businesses that were too small that can’t afford a monthly retainer fee and that’s how Groove Digital Marketing came about.
