Everyone must learn to let go of control in order to see their companies grow and thrive. Delegation, delegation, delegation. Without admitting you need help, your business and you will burn out. Always remember that everyone is important and vital to the existence of your business.
Jim’s One Idea
The idea to become an entrepreneur came about in October of 2001. He had been unemployed for 15 months, lost all of their money, deep in debt and struggling with a cancer diagnosis. He wanted to get control over the bad situation he was in and finding a new job seemed to take forever. He had a lot of experience in newsletter marketing and that would be the “cash cow” he needed to eventually start a business being a coach and consultant. He joined the Chamber of Commerce, went to networking events, and got free mailing lists from the public library, phone calls and everything it took to get his business started. About five years later, even though he was running a six figure business, he realized that it wasn’t the business he really wanted. He had the financial freedom but not the time freedom. So he branded himself “The Newsletter Guru,” wrote his first book The Magic of Newsletter Marketing and began public speaking.
“One of the main things I teach people is how to significantly boost your profit by simply keeping the customers you have longer and therefore selling more to them and getting more referrals.” There’s more to be made by building stronger relationships than by getting new clients. His mantra is “I’m helping people create a more profitable business faster.” He shares with others about learning to let go of control. Many people think that if they get help then they would make less money. No one can do everything on their own. Everyone needs help sometimes. He teaches budding entrepreneurs that by delegating, you as the business owner can focus on the marketing and building of your business. Jim created the “Million Dollar Platform” which “consists of all the different ways, all the different platforms and strategies that I use to attract clients to me.” All new business is made because of the effective way you market yourself. Lessons / Struggles
During the recession during the Carter Administration, he owned a bicycle business. Everyone was hoarding their money. He realized then that every customer was important and every customer was essential to keeping his business open. This same mindset continues to his business today.
I learned to let go (of control).
If you try to do it all on your own, you will burn out.

5 Moves To Start A New Business
- Get into a mastermind group quicker. Find a way to finance it. You need that outside perspective as business owners are too close to their business to see what needs to be done.
- Don’t waste time trying to convince people they need your service. You shouldn’t have to sell what you have.
- Recognize that you cannot just send email or text. You need to do it all to make your business successful.
- Get over yourself faster.
- Recognize that money is made to move around. It is always flowing. “Money moves toward value.”
