I really want it. I wanted it so bad…I will do anything to make this happen. It’s not a hobby for me. – Jessica Rhodes
As a mom and an entrepreneur, Jessica shared her reasons for starting her business; that it wasn’t for fame and fortune. It was so she could be a stay-at-home mom but also have her own business. She also shared tips that helped with her success. She stressed the importance of relationships and how that could open opportunities to gain more business for your business. Sometimes you have to give away a little something in order to gain a little something.
Jessica’s One Idea
The idea all started with wanting to be a stay-at-home mom. She never stopped and knew immediately that she wanted to book podcast guests or be a virtual assistant. She knew she wanted to have children with her husband, but also have the means to be able to stay home with them. Her father is business coach, Jim Palmer and he encouraged her to check out the virtual assistant industry. At first she didn’t understand that virtual assistants were actually business owners and not just assistants. But with the advice of her father, she moved forward and really came to the understanding of what being a virtual assistant was all about. Through the virtual assistant industry she got involved with Pinterest Marketing and became an expert. This helped to start her Interview Connections business.
Jessica was running Interview Connections, which assists in booking podcast guests and booking guests for other podcasts. She was also still in the virtual assistant industry and Pinterest Marketing. In May of 2013 she decided to focus on Interview Connections as it provided a larger income. The power of interviewing on podcasts is vastly different than the traditional public relations. Lessons / Struggles
There was a point about three months after her son was born when their savings was very low. She wasn’t sure she would book anyone for her podcasts. But she didn’t give up. She repeated to herself “Three Feet from Gold,” which is from the book of the same name. You never know how close you are to achieving your goal.
“The biggest lesson I would love to relay is the importance of building relationships.” You should put that as a priority in everything you do.
“Focus on just being a giver and just realize that you…have to give your services or products away for free before people pay you for them.” This way of doing business is very powerful. Success doesn’t only come from being paid.
People don’t use videos as often as they should. It’s a great marketing tactic as they are more personal.
Always ask questions and mention your name and business every chance you get.
