James expressed how hard work and persistence had helped him find the niche that he needed to get into to build his business. He realized that in listening to a lot of great speakers, the things they were talking about did not align to him. He started calling every person that he knew and offered to help them with their websites. He audited websites and helped them to improve their websites. He did this for 8 months, helping people without asking for payment or expecting anything in return. The day he left his job was an amazing feeling, the hard part was getting to that day. Have a rhythm of doing things every day. Writing marketing content is helpful in building his business. Getting the copy out of the way – speak directly & quickly to your customer’s personal paying points.
James’s One Idea
James started his first business back in 2008. He lost 87 lbs. after seesawing with his weight for 8 years and he helped his brother lose 126 lbs. in 8 months a lot of people kept asking him for help. He tried his hand at becoming a health coaching/speaker. He stopped eating sugar on January 12, 2006 and has never gone back. He started learning more about public speaking by joining the National Association of Speakers (The Academy). He did this from 2008 to 2010. After moving to Texas he continued to learn more about being an entrepreneur even after he was on phone sales and became a technical writer for Drilling Info. One day his boss told him that he was a marketer. He then became the face of their brand online. With his help, Drilling Info became the preeminent thought leader in oil and gas online.

5 Moves To Start A New Business
If he were to start another business today, he would concentrate on five are:
- Take a great name that explains what the business does right away.
- Niche it down with the tagline.
- Create a website that is a lead-collection machine. (Like Hot Spot Websites = hook is the catchy thing that gets your attention; verse is elaborating on that story for 2-3 lines)
- Begin producing content that is overwhelmingly helpful.
- Market that marketing and get it in front of as many eyeballs as possible.
