Perfectionism is the adversary of progress and creativity. — Ande Lyons
Ande gives an advice: Before the bubble idea pops into your head, you must understand the brand promise. It’s the emotional experience you want to evoke in your customers. This will build trust and intimacy with your customers. Deliver your brand promise consistently. Research or deeply learn to see if your business will actually make money for you. Look at your competition, study them. Focus on understanding your real client. Not just demographically but psycho-graphically too. It’s not all about passing or failing…it’s always an experiment. Find different ways to get yourself out there. There are programs out there that can help you in any way.
Ande’s One Idea
She received her MBA in 1982 and went straight into banking, which she found to be not a very good fit for being an entrepreneur because bankers are risk adverse. She still pursued the career in banking in order to get the financial skills that she needed.
She had started out with four different business ideas. Goddess Granola came to her as a recipe from her craving for weekly granola. She tried her first granola batch on her friends who encouraged her to make it into a business. She ended up finding someone who wanted to allow people to rent his bakery to try out their recipes.

With Goddess Granola, Ande realized that putting a product on the shelf is one of the most difficult things she had done. She was trying to get her products into big supermarkets chains but she wasn’t successful. Nobody’s buying.
She stepped back and thought about ways to market. She became certified as a Woman Owned Business. She became a part of large entities of supplier’s diversity program because women are considered a minority. She was placed on the government supplier contracts.
